Friday Randomness

As with earlier in the week I have a few things in mind that aren't worth their own posting but feel the need to bore you all senseless with the details anyway.

YouTube Relay: On Friday arvo's I enjoy a new pastime I've invented called YouTube Relay. It involves searching for a song you enjoy or simply ha vent heard in ages on YouTube - listening to it in entirety, then as the name implies, relaying to another clip. The catch being that you can only relay to something listed as related in the bottom right-hand list of other clips.

Today I've bounced from Eric Carmen right through to ZZ Top and now I'm @ Oasis - Wonderwall.

Dadness: A few of you guys have asked me recently - "So whats it like being a Dad?". Well I'll tell you now - its fucking awesome.

Redawn of Dawn Patrol: Tomorrow marks the official redawn of Saturday dawn patrols at Scarborough and I'm very happy to report that we will be joined (dragged kicking and screaming) by Todd who is currently gracing the west oz shores. Temperature forecast is 21, water temp 19 and a 3m swell so I doubt there will be any time to realise we're cold and insane!

AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com: A guy at work put me onto this site and it's such a laugh. If you have a few mins to spare, click onto it and browse through a few pages. Mostly just instances of random inappropriateness but some pure gold that only the expressions on faces can show you. I guarantee there is something on there that will make you giggle.

Fiona's Firtieff: Tomorrow arvo we'll be heading to Freo for Fionas Free-O which will be great. Looking forward celebrating with her and to seeing the team again as its been awhile! Funny that you can live just a few kms away but not see one another for 6 months!

Have a great weekend skaters and make sure you do a bunch of things I wouldn't do.

Get Lost

'LOST' is over........ finally and while I don't want to give anything away about the final season or ending, I'll just say I think I would have preferred the whole island get nuked instead. No more this and that and 'Jack we've gotta get to the beach/temple/hill/black rock/caves/hatch/camp/swan station/zoo/plantation/sub/plane/orchid/pearl station', just boom - end.

I was a real fan of the seasons but even I admit it just went on and on near the end. While I never saw a single personal grooming item on the island, I am impressed with the fact that the men were either clean shaven or '5 oclock shadowy' and the women kept their make-up routines in perfect order throughout the 6 years - well done. No one ever seemed to eat or sleep and the island supplied an infinite amount of guns/ammo/c4, clean clothes, medical supplies and random people that just pop out of the jungle.

Cya
Jack, Kate, the other white guy, tubby, token iraqi, token blackie, token dog, token koreans, token old person, token pregnant chick, token drug-addict, token lesbian, token kid, token inter-racial couple, token evil businessman mastermind, token disabled guy token mongolians and Ben.

The series certainly ticked all the boxes.

if only you had a name like... Jenny

there seems to be a penchant for songs about girls called Jenny

but given the topic of these songs you may not want to be the lead character!

Tommy Tutone - 867 5309 (Jenny)

"Jenny Jenny, who can i turn?" "Jenny i got your number, i need to make you mine"

and a great punk cover by Less than Jake

Our NZ cuzzy bro's Flight of the Conchords also have a quite hilarious track called Jenny

"Jenny.." "Pardon?" "Jenny..." "no sorry I think you've mistaken me for somebody else"

and my new favourite artist Matt Good also has a cracker of a track called Jenny's Song

"Jenny killed her dad with her car and now she's a millionaire
she got beat on mostly for being at home so mostly she wasn't there
"

lastly but not leastly, The Killers have a pearler call Jenny was a friend of mine which has a great signature riff and therefore can be found on Guitar Hero

"there aint no motive for this crime, Jenny was a friend of mine"

Hot Dog, We Have A Wiener

So I've finally bit the gambling bullet and opened a SportsBet account for the occaisional tipple.

We had a golf afternoon @ work last week and our winning prize (like there was a contest) was 4 premier tickets to the Fremantle v Collingwood game which included dinner, drinks and VIP seating - oh yeah! Due to the hype of 1v2 on the ladder and the fact that the whole evening was free, I decided to drop some cash on it with Sportsbet to make it that bit more exciting.

After opening the account I was amazed to see the level of detail you can go to and the hundreds of specific aspects of the game you can bet on. You name it, you can lose money on it! From which team will be leading at each quarter break (with every outcome shown with odds) to the specific player that scores the first goal.

The game was fairly iffy and the odds for win/lose were pretty poor so I went for 'First Score of the Match' and 'Total Score'. Both were thought out at length and based on the same assumption - that Freo would be their usual self and be getting down, dirty and in Collingwoods face at any opportuntity. At the bounce I thought Freo would go nuts and hammer the ball near the goal -> scoring a point - Bet 1 - First Score - Fremantle Point. As it was 1v2 and both teams really wanted the win, I expected it to be relatively low scoring overall - Bet 2 - Total Score - less than 195.

I lost both bets!

Ironically, when you join SportsBet and place a bet, your given $10 to use however you like. I put no thought into it at all and put it on the Adelaide v North game, betting that Adelaide would score first.

Winner!

Moral of the Story: Don't think too hard when betting cos its all friggin luck anyway! Of course, I'll be letting the winnings ride on this weeks round so we'll see how we go, hehe.

Update: This weeks cash is on the Dogs beating North by 20-39 points and/or Geelong in front of Collingwood at the half time break by 1-12 points.

Update 24/5: Dogs hammered North so i missed out there but Geelong were my favourite team this week, dishing me out $30 smackers.

DIY Frenzy Continues

Thought it was about time for a DIY update as its still been all go in the Dawson residence.

Since Cameron turned up things have certainly slowed but thankfully I'm still finding time to plod along with house-work as opposed to evil housework of course.

Pergola
The pergola out the back was looking VERY sorry for itself so we've done an overhaul by stripping it all back to a bare skeleton, licking it with paint and dropping some new colorbond sheets on top. I had a great 3 day plan thought out and as with all great plans, they can be flipped at the drop of a hat.... Day 1: Strip - Day 2: Paint - Day 3: New Roof

The stripping happened and the painting happened but that's it! We started to notice the structural integrity was a little worse than first anticipated. I'm guessing it was assembled when the house was built because the fashion in the early 80s was to drop the wooden supports straight into the ground with no further support. Wood + dirt + 30 years = woodrot + termites = pergola bye-bye. Each support had to be cut, stirrupped and cemented in before we proceeded any further - DOH#1

Many nights, a birth and a weekend later it was all assembled and looks quite good (if I do say so myself!) but due to the extra footing work, I need to re-pave the end and the colorbond didn't quite provide full waterproofing so that needs a little work too. All going gradually to plan so, getting there!

Random Garden
As pictured, the rear yard has a garden floating the middle of the lawn..........why you ask? No idea - so I ripped that sucker out! 4 large shrubs and an unknown citrus tree have been relocated to more aesthetically pleasing areas of the property. While this might not seem urgent - remember that the lawn has to be established in that area before TAF11!

Looking forward to nearmap.com taking a new picture so I can see what all the above looks like :P

Electrical
While attempting to put the dryer on the wall I drilled into an electrical line in the laundry wall - DOH#2. Still alive and have all my hair which is good but now we need a sparky to fix it. In my wisdom (well what was left after being bolted) I've waited a few weeks and now I have a string of electrical work that needs doing to save cash overall.

Mostly general stuff like ceiling light moving, lights installing. new power points inserted and I can get him to move the A/C condenser that's in the bloody way out the back. YAY. Definitely not looking forward to the bill but at least we know its done properly, safely and it will work afterward!

That'll do for now, more life updates to follow when I get 2 shakes

DJ Has A Name

Well its been the mother of all posting droughts from me and it's not due to nothing happening, its TOO much happening!

By far the biggest news (and reason for the posting drought) is that we have a new son - Cameron. He was born on the 27th April @ 1.37pm @ 9.35lb. So far everyday has been different and its been a steep learning curve for all involved! Despite a bit of jaundice and a recent spat of colic, he is doing very well and will be celebrating his 3 week birthday tomorrow..... all invited :P

Kylie has been doing VERY well and so far has not bitten my head off....... much. Cam is a very hungry boy so the milk bar can't ever be too far away and she has done well to keep her sanity with a kid hanging off her for 6-7 hours a day. His sleeping patterns have been a little irregular but as time goes on we are settling into a non enforced semi-routine so we'll just have to see how that pans out.

All pictures worthy of publishing are being uploaded to Picasa so check em out here.

Not much else to add other that I'm finding the whole experience amazing. Still can't believe that the little guy can be born and everything just works: breathing, hearing, sight, cold/hot sensitivity, sneezing, coughing, feeding and even the bowel movements are mind blowing....at the start! He has already developed a bit of a personality and we know a few things that piss him off, hehe.

Will endeavour to keep picasa updated with a few pics every now and then so stay tuned on there if you like goo-goo gaa-gaa moments. You can probably expect my postings on here to be more frequent as I start to get more sleep and my brain returns to normal, well, like it was before anyway.

Yep its overdue, yep its late on Saturday night and yep I'm taking a half ass effort at this.
