Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!
Kylie is now 31.2 weeks pregnant so the 'day-of-the-dad' is drawing ever closer. Don't get me wrong I'm not scared of it, it's just quite daunting to know that DJ will soon be joining our new family. DJ's ETA is still May 6 but we believe it will be more like late April at this stage. He/She has been kicking, punching and keeping Kylie awake for the last month or so and I'm sure by the end it will be a mutual separation!
Kylie and Janet are organising an UNtraditional baby shower so lookout for the invite in the next week or so. Don't worry we won't be having the 'name that melted chocolate bar in the nappy' or the 'which baby food is this?' game............ instead they have decided to make it good!
Growing up I remember asking mum and dad life questions about anything and everything and thinking that their answer was always correct. I mean why isn't the sky blue cos of backyard pool liners? It's only in the last 6 months that it's occurred to me, they knew SOME stuff and the rest they just made up!
On another topic we have been officially house hunting these last few months. We've had the finance approved so we just need some bricks n' dirt to stick our flag in. We've been looking in and around the northern Perth suburbs so hopefully something comes up soon. If we have to renew the lease for 6 months and move with DJ in tow it won't be the end of the world but It'd be easier to move now for sure.
I think that's about it from the Dawson's for now. Have a great long weekend all.
Ciao

TAF10 Rewind
I think my last real posting was pre-TAF so here's a run down for those that didn't make it. In true festival style the 2 days were completely different to each other! Saturday was huge, both musically and alcoholically with the Ah Yeah brewery serving up some splendid brews to hydrate the team. The stereo was gradually cranked during the day as our intoxication escalated and by the time Muse headlined, I'm glad we warned the neighbours!
All tents were erected well before dark and I'm happy to report they all survived the night. The food was spectacular with marinated everything served up along with an abundance of wicked salads, sauces and the like. If anyone was still hungry or thirsty by the end they REALLY must have had their eyes closed!
Back to my point on 'true festival style' it seems everyone wrote themselves off on Day 1 and Ess-Tee ruggled on day 2: Day 1 Attendance - 32, Day 2 - 10! Sunday was a great chillout day with the beats being delivered at a more hangover suitable volume level and newspapers, books, card games were in full swing. It was great just to kick back and do absolutely nothing and even though it was in the backyard it really felt like a holiday.
It has definitely been cemented into the annual calender with the following differences for next year:
1. Stubbie Coolers
2. Change the date so people can potentially go to BDO and TAF (and it doesn't conflict with Patricks Birthday!)
3. Lose the 'official' competition references to BDO apart from the lineup of course.
4. Pace ourselves!
I really had an absolute ball and from what I heard so did everyone else so can't wait for TAF11.

STEVE KOPANDY - Falls to You
Interesting story of how I came across this guy, well not really, just i know a guy who knows him so he got me into it by sending me a mp3. The interesting bit was that i didnt like the song he sent me....initially. It was one of those sneaky songs that i didnt automatically delete assuming i would never listen again. It would get played as part of my random playing of my media library and eventually I was going "hey i like this song, what is it?"
This isnt the song that got me into his music but its not freely available online so i couldn't like it to you good folks
Steve is from Newcastle but by the looks of things is living in London town trying to gig it up
Check out Falls to you on his myspaz : www.myspace.com/stevekopandy
while u r there listen to Paris in Winter, which is the base song of the remix I originally heard
if u like his stuff check out Missy Higgins, another piano/guitar songwriter is my logic, much more famous tho

Yoink!
This morning the Mrs+DJ heard about Yoink! on the radio and after a 10 min blast on the site and iPhone app, it looks the goods.
In short its a free item lister which includes your GPS coordinates. In long it enables you to pinpoint other nearby Yoink! users and contact them to collect free stuff they have advertised. In 1 minute I can see that someone around the corner from me has a pie maker they don't want and a fridge thats been converted into a huge party esky!
Its only weakness I can see is its reliance on the public. ie if no one uses it, no one will use it. Alternatively if people post false things or 'free sex' at their mates houses (or other hilarious things) it wont last very long!
So if you have an iPhone, search for Yoink! and download the little app. There are 9 people within 2 suburbs around my house with free stuff so hopefully as word spreads there will be more and more and we'll need to renovate to store it al.
Happy collecting of other peoples shit!

That Song - Big Wreck
top 10 of all time for me, voted for it in the hottest 100 of all time last year
another canadian band, i have been on a canadian punisher regime of late but considering the Olympics n all i think a good time to do this one. EDIT : from half assed research it seems that the rest of the band are yanks not cannucks so lets call them a North American artist
Ian Thornley (the canadian) heads up this grungesque band from the 90s, he has since gone on to form a new band called....wait for it...wait...Thornley! coz you know writing all the songs in your band is obviously not in control enough and you must now make your own band based around your good self.
youtube of THAT SONG
another cracka called Blown Wide Open
and of course if you enjoy this then check out Ian's new outfit Thornley : Come Again (nice vid too)
so grab your geetars and detune them to drop d and rock the casbah!

The New Pornographers - The Bleeding Heart Show
A multi-talented band consisting of eight members who are all busy doing side projects or directing films or solo artisting etc A Canadian outfit that typify the indie sound, thus why they get a gig in my listening world. You may have even heard songs by AC Newman or Neko Case without knowing it.
This track is so so good, definitely in my top 20 favourite song ever and to be perfectly honest I couldn't list you five songs of theirs. Its on my list of things to add to my computer library when the opportunity arises. Its a big build up track, so make sure you listen to it all!
This song wasn't a single so there is no official clip, so here is some randoms media homework lol
The Bleeding Heart Show Utube
my other super favourite song of theirs
Sing Me Spanish Techno Utube
if u like them then check out the beautiful voice of Neko Case

CHIPS AHOY! - The Hold Steady
Brooklyn based band (as in "no sleep til....") are a rock/punk/post grunge/NERD ROCK! outfit who are so original that all their songs sound the same! Sort of..
they have a distinctive sound and the singing (aka talking) makes them sound a little samey through out their catalogue but they have some really good catchy tracks so don't run away screaming from boredom
definitely an acquired taste that certainly will not appeal to all but maybe, just maybe to you?
she put $900 on the 5th horse in the 6th race...i think its name was Chips Ahoy!
The Hold Steady mypsaz : www.myspace.com/theholdsteady
"Stevie Nix" Live Utube
so next time your in Brookyln check them out, or propose to your Mrs on the bridge, whatever floats your boat!
